As community representative for Children’s Hospital of Illinois, Cookie Bannon shares her talent both inside and outside the hospital.
The singer-songwriter uses her music not only to entertain and comfort hospitalized children and their families, but also to communicate the story of Children’s Hospital to community groups. Cookie’s work can best be described as music ministry. Cookie uniquely connects with her audience - making a positive impact on people’s lives during trying times. With over 23 years of experience, Cookie has found that music can be an effective form of communication and a powerful tool in the healing process.
Cookie began recording her music in response to requests from her young patients . Cookie’s most recent CD recording, “The Other Side of the Bed,” features 12 of her original compositions and a companion book in which Cookie shares the stories behind the music. All proceeds from the sales of her CDs benefit the hospital.
Cookie’s outstanding work has been recognized with a number of awards. She has received The Salvation Army’s Others Award, Peoria YWCA’s Lydia Moss Bradley Communications Award, Children’s Hospital of Illinois’ Champions for Children Advocacy Award, Toastmasters’ Communications Award and OSF Saint Francis Medical Center’s/Children’s Hospital of Illinois’ Heritage Hall of Fame Legend Award.
