Physician Access Line (PALS) 1-800-231-7257
The Physician Access Line Service is a toll-free phone line available for healthcare providers to utilize when they need to talk with one of our Children's Hospital of Illinois’ specialists.
Each PALS operator has access to the schedules, telephone, and pager numbers of our staff physicians, on call lists, and other information necessary to facilitate a prompt connection to the appropriate party or service.
When calling, give the PALS operator
- your name
- where you are calling from and
- the specialty service you need to consult
The operator will then page the specialist. After the specialist answers the page, the operator will connect you. If you need to contact a specialty clinic, the PALS operator can also assist you.
If a particular physician is requested but not available, the PALS operator will direct your request to an appropriate resource or arrange for the requested physician to return your call. If you request a call back, you will need to leave information as to when and where you can be reached.
If an emergency referral and transportation is needed, the PALS operator will connect you to our Transfer Services (MedCom) Department.
Chairman's Clinic - 309-624-9844
The Chairman's Clinic is a service available to primary care physicians for:
- Diagnosis of complicated conditions.
- Interpretation of tests.
- Recommendation for treatment.
- Assistance in making appropriate referrals.
If you are not sure if your patient needs to see a surgeon or a specialist, the Chairman's Clinic can evaluate the patient and recommend an appropriate course of action or evaluation.
Chairman's Clinic is staffed by the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics and the fourth year pediatric Chief Resident at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. The patient is referred by the primary care provider for a one-time consultation. Following the consultation, the Chairman's Clinic will make recommendations for further testing and treatment and determine further resources available to the primary care provider for the patient.
The Chairman's Clinic is held the first Tuesday of each month or as arranged for emergent cases.

The service offers the clinical resources of Children’s Hospital of Illinois for primary care physicians who have a patient in need of a "medical home" and coordination of care. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:45 pm.

Resource Link - 309-624-9783
Resource Link is a resource center for child and adolescent behavioral health. This service offers support to primary care physicians who are treating a child or adolescent diagnosed with a mental illness. By contacting Resource Link a physician can receive on-site trainings regarding the diagnosis and treatment of child and adolescent depression and other mental illnesses, consultation from a child psychiatrist, service coordination from a case coordinator, and general information about child and adolescent mental illness. Service coordination includes screening the pediatric patient for depression and other mental illness, making appropriate referrals to mental health providers in the community, and helping facilitate effective communication among all providers serving the patient and family. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 am – 5 pm.
