The Social Service Department at Children’s Hospital of Illinois provides professional staff that assists patients and their families with emotional, spiritual, and financial needs associated with a hospital stay. The Caseworkers provide the following services:
- Supportive counseling to help patients and families deal with the stress created by illness and hospitalization.
- Psychosocial assessments to assist the healthcare team in determining the patient and family’s needs.
- Crisis intervention services for victims of domestic violence, abuse and neglect, drug and alcohol problems, grief and loss, depression, trauma, and coping with critical and chronic illnesses.
- Referrals to community services.
- Counseling and education in preparation for discharge from the medical center.
- Information on eligibility for medical insurance and financial assistance programs.
- Information on Advanced Directives.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.
