The Division of Pediatric Surgery of Children’s Hospital of Illinois focuses on the diagnosis pre-operative, operative and postoperative management of surgical procedures in children from newborn to 18 years of age. The pediatric surgeons treat all congenital and acquired childhood disease and understand how to work with children and their families to ease the stress of surgical procedures. For children suffering from traumatic injuries, the surgeons play an active role on a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the best care.
The surgeons also work closely with neonatologists to perform and coordinate the surgical repair of birth defects that may be life threatening to premature and full-term infants. Additionally, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is available for both neonatal and pediatric patients. Other specialized services include the diagnosis and operative care of patients with malignant and benign tumors in coordination with St. Jude Midwest Affiliate at Children’s Hospital of Illinois.
