To promote oral motor, feeding & communication skill development in everyday activities...
Speech pathology evaluates various communication impairments and oral-motor/feeding deficits related to neurological impairment, cranio-facial anomalies, tracheotomy, head injury, cardiac disease, prematurity, or developmental delays.

Specialized programs:

Treatment may include normalization of sensory awareness for feeding, improvement of oral-motor skills, development of feeding skills, or increased receptive/expressive communication skill development.  Augmentative communication systems are considered when necessary to supplement verbal language.  Speech-language pathologists are also responsible for conducting modified barium swallow studies with radiologists to verify swallow safety, identify appropriate diet levels, and determine therapeutic needs.
