The Division of Gastroenterology provides inpatient and outpatient consultation for children with illness of the liver/GI tract. Comprehensive care is coordinated with primary care physicians for children with:
- Biliary atresia
- Chrohn’s disease
- Chronic hepatitis
- Constipation
- Feeding or growth problems
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Malabsorption syndromes
- Metabolic liver disease
- Neonatal jaundice/ hepatitis
- Non-ulcer dyspepsia
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Protracted diarrhea
- Rare illnesses involving the gastrointestinal tract
- Rectal bleeding
- Recurrent abdominal pain
- Ulcerative colitis
- Vomiting
- Chronic pancreatitis
In addition, the OSF Saint Francis Digestive Disease Center provides diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, pulmonary bronchoscopy and cardiac transesophageal echocardiograms to pediatric patients.
The Digestive Disease Center is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and technology and can provide the following procedures and laboratory studies:
- Breath hydrogen testing
- Colonoscopy
- Impedence Studies
- Manometry esophageal/ rectal
- Percutaneous liver biopsy
- Polypectomy
- Rectal suction biopsy
- Small bowel biopsy
- Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy
The Center can also perform endoscopic ultrasound, the first in downstate Illinois, procedures to stage submucosal esophageal and rectal tumors.
The Center currently services gastroenterologists, pulmonologists and cardiologists, as well as pediatric, family practice and internal medicine physicians. Services are performed Monday through Friday between 7:30am and 4:30 pm. Gastroenterologists are available to provide on-site education for patients, families, and referring physicians.
