The Division of Anesthesiology provides a wide range of pediatric anesthesia services to Children’s Hospital of Illinois patients. General anesthesia for all types of surgery and diagnostic procedures, including complex congenital cardiac disease is commonplace. Intravenous and oral sedation are routine. Regional pain blockade, such as caudal, lumbar and thoracic epidural are provided. Also, various limb blocks and inguinal and perineal blocks can be administered.

Post-operative acute pain services are provided on an as-needed basis. Pre-operative tours including the pre-operative area, operating suite, and post-anesthesia recovery room are available via Child Life services.  Parents are also invited to the Post Anesthesia Recovery Unit to be with their child shortly after the completed surgery.
