- Pediatric Services:
- The Children's Hospital offers the only comprehensive pediatric specialty and subspecialty medical services in central Illinois including cardiology, cardiac surgery, gastroenterology, neurology, general surgery, infectious diseases, genetics, endocrine/diabetes, critical care, hematology/oncology, cystic fibrosis, spina bifida, hemophilia, sickle cell, etc.
- The Children's Hospital offers the region's only comprehensive pediatric subspecialty clinics and ambulatory services. The 15 clinics include services in such areas as cardiology, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, seizure, and hemophilia. The complete outpatient, emergency department and clinic visits exceed 50,000 each year.
- The satellite specialty clinics rotate regularly in 12 cities across the central Illinois region including Quincy, Bloomington, Champaign, Moline, etc.
- A total of 127 inpatient beds are devoted to caring for children's needs, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intermediate Care, two general pediatric floors, and the Newborn Nursery.
- The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of the oldest and largest in the nation. Dedicated in 1949, it serves 29 hospitals in 24 north central Illinois counties.
- The Children's Hospital has the largest cardiology/cardiac surgery program for children in Illinois and one of the largest endocrine/diabetes services in the country.
- The Children's Hospital is a designated Level I site for emergency medical services for pediatrics and the Life Flight program serves pediatric parents through the region.
- Academic Program (University of Illinois, College of Medicine at Peoria):
- The Children's Hospital is the primary pediatric teaching facility for the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. The affiliation benefits both physicians and patients through 24-hour, in-house physician coverage, and the immediate availability of pediatric specialists for consultation.
- Thirty residents a year receive training in primary pediatrics and 70 other residents a year receive a rotation in pediatrics.
- Most pediatricians and many pediatric specialists in central Illinois receive their training at the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
- Other Information:
- Children's Hospital of Illinois provides over $4 million in charity care per year, and is the largest provider of free care to children in central and southern Illinois.
- The Children's Miracle Network, through an annual telethon and special events throughout the year, has raised over $10 million in 15 years.
