Ways To Give

Children's Hospital never turns a child and his or her family away, regardless of financial circumstances.

Every part of Children's Hospital is supported - directly or indirectly - by donations. Many people like to give a gift that can be used where it is needed the most, and others support certain programs that have touched them personally in some way.

Regardless of how you would like your gift to be used, it will make a difference in the life of a child.

Securities

Securities Donation.  You can contribute appreciated securities, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to Children's Hospital.  Gifts of appreciated securities provide financial support to Children's Hospital as well as tax benefits for the donor. If securities have been held for more than a year, the charitable deduction is the current fair market value and may be made without incurring a liability for capital gains taxes. The transfer of securities should be made directly to a Children's Hospital account. For more information, please contact Andrew Schuster at 309.566.5692 or at andrew.schuster@osfhealthcare.org.

Planned Giving

Bequests.  Bequests are a future gift to the Children's Hospital specified in a will or trust that allows the donor to retain all assets during his or her life. The following language may be helpful in crafting a will or trust in which Children's Hospital is named as a beneficiary.

"I give to OSF Healthcare Foundation, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, for the benefit of the Children's Hospital of Illinois, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, located at 530 Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, Illinois the sum of $____DOLLARS, or _____% of my residuary estate, (and/or if property is given, describe same), for its general use and purposes."

Charitable Gift Annuities.  Charitable gift annuities are contributions made in return for Children's Hospital Foundation's promise to pay one or two annuitants of a pre-arranged fixed income for life. A charitable gift annuity provides for a fixed payout. With gift annuities, you transfer cash or marketable securities to the Children's Hospital in exchange for a contractual schedule of fixed-income payments; the annual rate is based on the beneficiary's age. The initial minimum is $5,000, with a $1,000 minimum for each additional gift of this kind.

Charitable Remainder Unitrusts.  These allow you to transfer assets into a separately managed trust that will provide you and/or your beneficiaries with payments for life. A charitable remainder unitrust pays out a percentage of the principle and increases as the value of the principle increases. Tax savings include immediate income tax deduction for the gift and possible capital gains, estate and gift tax savings.

Charitable Lead Trust.  A charitable lead trust is the reverse of a charitable remainder trust. It allows you to place assets in a trust, assign the income to the Children's Hospital for a certain time and later have ownership of the asset returned to you or passed on to your named beneficiary.

Appreciated Property.  Examples of appreciated property include stocks and securities, real estate, and personal property, such as art, antiques, rare books and coins.
